Access to fresh water is one of the world’s most urgent and growing challenges. At Good Water Energy (GWE), we provide a scalable, zero-emission desalination solution using waste heat from our geothermal energy systems, delivering ultra-low-cost distilled water to communities, industry, and agriculture. In regions like the Northern Territory (NT), where water security is under pressure, GWE offers a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable way forward.

Water for a thirsty region:
The NT opportunity

In the Greater Darwin area, water demand continues to grow, but fresh groundwater reserves are under increasing stress. GWE’s geothermal-powered desalination could meet 100% of Darwin’s water needs using waste heat from less than 100 MWe of electricity output, the equivalent of just 25 wells. By supplying the NT with clean, low-cost water, GWE can:

  • Reduce pressure on existing groundwater sources
  • Improve water quality across residential and industrial systems
  • Lower operating costs for agriculture and heavy industry
  • Eliminate dependence on energy-intensive reverse osmosis desalination plants
  • Save the NT Government and taxpayers billions in infrastructure CAPEX
Cut CO₂ emissions and plastic waste associated with traditional systems

A better water solution
for agriculture

The Greater Darwin agricultural sector faces high costs and seasonal constraints in accessing clean water. GWE’s solution offers a game-changing advantage for farmers and agribusiness:

  • Reliable, cost-effective bulk freshwater for irrigation and processing
  • Potential for pipeline integration with existing NT Power and Water networks
  • Opportunity to expand into higher-value, water-intensive crops
Enables new investment in agricultural innovation and land productivity

With desalinated water powered by waste geothermal heat, GWE supports a climate-resilient agricultural economy that can grow sustainably.

Residential water, redefined

Water prices for households in the Greater Darwin region are rising and groundwater supplies are being depleted.
GWE can deliver distilled, zero-emission water to homes across the region at a retail price of just A$1.50 per kilolitre.
What that means for residents:

  • Savings of up to A$500 per year per household
  • Cleaner, higher-quality water for everyday use
  • Less strain on groundwater reservoirs
  • Reduced environmental footprint across the entire water system

With average consumption at 75 million litres per day, GWE’s desalination model has the capacity and technology to serve the full retail market efficiently and sustainably.

Australia and much of the world faces growing pressure on freshwater systems. Desalination is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity. But it must be clean, cost-effective, and scalable. GWE’s geothermal desalinated water can meet that demand, with lower costs, zero emissions, and massive potential across multiple sectors.
