Geothermal Green Fresh / Desalinated Water

Traditionally, expensive Reverse Osmosis (RO) is utilised in desalination plants in Australia and most other parts of the world. These plants are driven by electricity which is produced using fossil fuels. Thermal energy is a cheaper and more efficient way to desalinate. Once in operation, our technology will deliver emission-free desalination at the lowest cost in the world.

Geothermal power generation produces heat ‘waste’ as a by-product. This waste heat is normally disposed of in large cooling towers. Instead, our system uses low cost, low maintenance modular Multi-Effect Distillation (MED) desalination technology as a cooler to produce up to 1ML / day of high-quality fresh water at a fraction of the cost.

Affordable, zero-emission fresh water

Reasonably priced fresh water could be supplied in bulk to local agriculture, industry or municipal supply for below $1.00 per 1000 litres. This fresh water can be added to the State and Territory owned water treatment and delivery networks and sold to customers at lower prices than the current tariffs. It can also be supplied by private pipelines to industry and businesses in close proximity to our production sites.

In addition to agriculture and public scheme water sales, Good Water Energy has the opportunity to develop its offering by packaging zero emission drinking water for export and for distribution through Australian supermarket chains. Branded as ‘Zero Emission Water’, this could potentially be the first emission free packaged drinking water sold in environmentally friendly plant-based bottles at very competitive prices in Australia.

Seawater, not freshwater

There is no shortage of sea water like there is with fresh ground water resources and rainwater. Future hydrogen production must use sea water due to ongoing major shortages of fresh water. Desalination of seawater or salty water using waste thermal energy from our geothermal turbines will provide large volumes of low cost, fresh water suitable for drinking, agriculture, alcohol production and other industry fresh water requirements.

Our geothermal technology improves the quality of existing supply and removes the need for further depletion of fresh groundwater aquifers and / or new expensive RO desalination plants.
